Celebrating Real Women: Irish Designer Marks International Women’s Day with Empowering Wearable‐Art Campaign
Irish designer Caroline Duffy, founder of the sustainable luxury brand Caroline Duffy Designs, is marking International Women’s Day with a powerful celebration of authenticity, creativity, and community. Her latest spring summer wearable‐art collection is unveiled through a striking “Real Women” photoshoot featuring local women from diverse backgrounds, captured in hand‐painted silk garments that blend fine art with fashion.
Rather than turning to professional models, Duffy chose women from her own community—women balancing careers, families, personal transitions, and the everyday pressures that shape modern life. The result is a warm, honest portrayal of confidence and natural beauty, offering an alternative to the airbrushed imagery that often dominates the fashion world.
‘“I put a Model Call Out up on Instagram, hoping I might get a few replies. I was amazed to get over 400 messages! I was so excited that it resonated with people. Then I got offers from stylists, make up artists and hair dressers offering to help bring this to life. The heartfelt support was amazing!”
“The women in this shoot are living real, full lives,” says Duffy. “They represent resilience, softness, creativity, and spirit. I wanted to honour them—and all women—by creating pieces that wrap them in colour, joy and floral energy.”

Fashion as a Form of Well‐Being
Duffy’s work is deeply rooted in supporting women’s mental health. Each garment begins as an original artwork painted in her Dundalk studio, designed to surround the wearer with expressive colour and nature‐inspired motifs. She believes strongly in the emotional influence of florals and creative energy, drawing on studies showing that nature imagery can boost positivity and calm.
Alongside her fashion line, Duffy hosts floral art workshops intended to give women a welcoming space to slow down, reconnect, and experience the therapeutic benefits of creativity.
“Women carry so much,” she says. “Creativity can be a lifeline—something gentle and restorative in a world that asks a lot of us.” I left inspired, already imagining new palettes, new florals, new silk stories waiting to unfold.
A key pillar of Duffy’s brand is sustainability and local craftsmanship. Her garments are printed on 100% GOTS‐certified silk using eco‐friendly processes and are hand‐finished in Ireland.
She believes making in Ireland supports a growing movement to strengthen Ireland’s fashion industry and revive traditional skills.
“I want future generations to wear clothing proudly made here,” Duffy says. “There is talent, heritage, and heart in Irish fashion, and it deserves to flourish.”
A Celebration for International Women’s Day
At its heart, the campaign is a tribute—to Irish women, to creativity, and to the power of showing up as oneself. As International Women’s Day invites reflection on progress and empowerment, Duffy’s project offers a reminder that beauty is not a performance but a lived, human experience.
“These women brought their stories, their laughter, their openness,” she reflects. “That courage to be real is what International Women’s Day is all about.”
